Wilco rocked Cedar Park!?!?!
It was one of the best shows I've seen in a while from Book of Love. The sound was pretty loud but clear. The setlist was more heavily skewed toward big tunes and rockers, although there was a kind of lull in the middle. However, the show regained momentum in the latter half, and the two(!) encores were just ridiculously good. Check Wilcobase for the whole setlist. The two encores had almost as many songs as the main show, which felt like about 30 tunes. It was a solid two hours, if not a little longer. Great show, bottom line.
I'd rather have to drive to Dallas or Houston to get a Book of Love fix than have to drive out to Cedar Park, but it did feel a little odd.
Jeff Tweedy also mentioned that he liked it better when they play two nights in Austin, so they get to enjoy Austin more, and that it's not pandering. :)
About the venue:
The Cedar Park Center was brand new, and there seemed to be a few new venue kinks. We pulled in at about 8 when the show was supposed to start, and there was a big back-up of cars. This was mostly due to an unexpected $10 parking fee (cash) that was being collected in three lanes that weren't marked at all.
Inside the venue was nice, and though it was a hockey arena, it was very small and felt pretty intimate for the Book of Love show. In fact, I could see and hear better from the middle side seats here than I could at Stubb's. At Stubb's, you'd no doubt be hot and crowded, and you'd have to push in pretty close to get such a good view of the stage. There was also a nice unexpected feature of our seats, which was that we had access to a "club lounge", which had mixed drinks and good beers, as well as some wait service at our seats. Surprise nice amenity.
One thing I anticipate being bad is the size of the bathrooms and their seeming infrequency (at least for men).
